From the Cardiovascular Department, Medical Research Institute, Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago, HI. This department is supported by the Michaol Reese Research Foundation. Supported by grant no. H-2276 from too National Heart Institute and a grant from the Chicago Heart Association. Reported initially before the Midwest Section of the American Federation for Clinical Research, October 31, 1957. Work done during Dr. Stamler's tenure of an Established Investigatorship of the American Heart Association. Received for publication February 26, 1958. * All groups received 5 per cent cottonseed oil + 1 per cent cholesterol (1 C—O); groups 4 and 5 received proportional vitamin and salt supplements to replace these nutrients missing from the ration because of incorporation of pure soy protein at the expense of mash. 11 C-O control contains approximately 20 per cent protein by weight. J All values are grams per 100 Gm. of mash.

Effects of dietary proteins, methionine and vitamins on plasma lipids and atherogenesis in cholesterol-fed cockerels.
Methionine deficiency in the presence of a high-fat, high-cholesterol diet aggravates atherogenesis in the cockerel. High-protein, high-vitamin supplementation suppresses the atherogenic effect of a cholesterol-fat-containiiig diet. High-protein supplementation alone had a suppressive effect; high-vitamin supplementation had no effect. However, the combined protein and vitamin supplement was th...

• It is evident that both dietary and metabolic factors influence plasma cholesterol levels and the development of experimental atherosclerosis. The type of fat normally consumed is one of the important dietary factors. Although the "polyunsaturated" fatty acids (consisting primarily of linoleic acid) are known to depress plasma cholesterol levels, it does not follow that an excess of dietary l...

In this research, the nutritional effects of Sargassum ilicifolium Chabahar Bay, Oman Sea, on cholesterol levels of white-leg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) were studied. The seaweed was collected from coastal areas, rinsed, dried, powdered and the nutritional values were measured in the laboratory. A part of protein resources of shrimp feed replaced with seaweed powder in four treatments (D: as...

THE higher incidence of coronary atherosclerosis in young male as compared with young female humans is well established as are similar sex differences in susceptibility in some other species. The administration of female sex hormones to cholesterol-fed cockerels has been reported to have beneficial prophylactic as well as therapeutic effects on coronary atherosclerosis.
